ACCESSIBILITY on our PLATFORM and WEBSITES
Hi-Vis UK DSI Platform and Hi-Vis UK websites
We only use sites such as WordPress (where we built this course) and Vimeo (for our videos) because they, like us, work towards the highest standards in accessibility.
In addition to existing accessibility software you might already use or your preferred browser’s tools, all our websites include a free, simple accessibility toolkit to make the pages easier for you to use, for example, changing the size and colour of the text.See images below.
The accessibility page can always be found by clicking on the accessibility page the link in the top right corner of your screen.
A site map can be found in the very bottom right hand corner of the screen.
For our toolkit click on the yellow eye symbol/icon which you will find located in the top left-hand corner of every page.
Web Browsers e.g. Google Chrome
You can also find many free accessibility tools included with most web browser’s such as: Google Chrome, Apple’s Safari, Mozilla’s Firefox, Microsoft’s Explorer.
These all include accessibility controls you can use to enable your computer to do many things such as reading the pages aloud to you if you find it difficult to see the text.
To find out how to turn these features on or to find out more about what your browser can do for you, a good place to start is AbilityNet’s “My Computer, My Way” website. There you will find free, expert advice and information. Click the following link to their website:
Language choices other than English
Our site pages and videos and animations can be viewed in a wide number of written/spoken languages.
WEBPAGES: To choose a different language of a webpage either click the blue “translate” button at the bottom/centre of the webpage you are on, or, use the blue “select language” menu button on the navigation bar at the top right hand side of any webpage.
VIDEOS/ANIMATIONS: To choose a different language of a video or animation click on the CC button at the bottom of the video or animation on that page.
WEB BROWSERS: You can also use your web browser (e.g.: Google Translate using Chrome) to select a different language but that will only translate the webpage not any videos or animations to links to other websites on that web page.
Video guide to using our website accessibility tools
A short video with spoken narration and subtitles showing how the accessibility tools, which you can access on any page, can enable you to adjust the site to make it more comfortable to use e.g. enlarge the size of letters or change the background colour behind the text for a contrast that suits you more.
For a larger view of the video below simply click on the full screen icon in the bottom right hand corner of the video.
